You've picked a great place to go scuba diving! Much of The Bay of Islands is centred around tourism, with Paihia at the heart of the action. Therefore there are an abundance of places to stay, from backpacker hostels to five star luxury resorts.
Paihia also has a great choice of restaurants, cafes and bar. We recommend booking in advance, especially during the busy summer season (November - March).
If you would prefer somewhere quieter, idyllic Russell is only a 20 minute ferry ride away. As the site for the "first capital of New Zealand", the quaint town has lots of history and offers a more relaxed vibe compared with Paihia.
Further afield are the towns of Kerikeri and Kawakawa, both about 20 minutes drive from Paihia.
